I always enjoy it when I get the chance to work with people more than once; in this case it was Melissa's turn to be in front of the camera for her senior portraits! A few years ago I had the privilege to photograph her older sister Jenny for her high school senior portraits. On this session we got the chance to shoot some images in a few new locations that I had scoped out earlier this year.

Saturday the 12th of July was the wedding of Amber Winter & Andrew Hagen, held at Holy Rosary church in Lima, just a bit outside of Durand. The day started out a bit overcast and windy, then turned bright and sunny, with even more wind! Holy Rosary Catholic Church is at very scenic location, and the church is set on a hill, which makes it even more picturesque. I sure got my cardio workout, though! I had to cart my equipment up the hill, got to an elevator that I couldn't get to work - so I got to cart my gear back outside and around the church and up more hill, then lug the cases up a flight of stairs! Once inside, the church is very grand, with a long walk up to the alter area - so I spent quite a bit of time going back and forth - but it was all worth it, for we got some great images of Andrew & Ambers wedding!

Yes, that is correct, no spelling mistake. Nichelle - as in Vulcan hand greetings, and the inability to win at thumb wrestling. No, no - you didn't miss that episode.
THIS Nichelle is from Colfax, the world-famous halfway point to the equator, and soon to be starting her senior year! We had a great time making some great portraits with Nichelle! Thanks for coming to my studio, Nichelle - and Live Long and Prosper!

Bryan & Tina are two of the nicest people I have ever met - friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic! When you're in the room with them, you can just feel how much they love and care for each other. Bryan & Tina started their wedding day by coming to my studio for some formal bridal portraits, then we all went to the Creamery in Downsville for their wedding & reception. Keith & Amanda

Ever wander around the back country roads, following a twist here, a turn there, a gravel road that disappears into the woods and suddenly opens onto a beautiful, scenic lake? That place is where Keith & Amanda exchanged their wedding vows on June 9th, 2007.

If I had to describe Keith & Amanda's relationship, I could do so with one word - Holy. Let me define that for those of you who may not follow; to be holy is to be set apart, reserved for something special. Keith & Amanda were specifically set apart and reserved for each other.

Two things about their wedding really impressed me - one, they had reserved themselves for this moment, going so far as to not even kiss for the last seven months before their wedding - and two, instead of lighting a unity candle during their ceremony, they performed a foot-washing ceremony for each other. A powerful symbol of servanthood to each other, of putting the needs of the other ahead of their own. This is a lesson we all need to learn.

Saturday May 19th was the wedding of Chris Schooley & Megan Tauer! Chris & Megan got married at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lake St. Croix Beach, MN. The architecture of this church is very southwest - white stucco, big archways, large beamed doors. I felt if I closed my eyes and let the hot wind blow on my face, I should hear the "ching, ching, ching" of spurs and galloping horses from some old western movie! Neat place.

As a professional photographer with more than 20 years of experience, I've been to alot of weddings, which means I've seen alot of couples get married, and sometimes you get a vibe about couples - you can see and sense when they click, you know when they got it right - Megan & Chris got it right. And they've got some great friends and family to back them up. Megan & Chris - congratulations!

Saturday, October 7th, 2006 must have been one of the most perfect days ever - perfect temperture, slight breeze, fall colors - and when I stepped out of my little blue Dodge Raider, I was even greeted by the enthusiastic sound of UW-Eau Claire homecoming marching band music! Wow! Bottle it, I'll take some home. This was the backdrop to the wedding of Chad Lovaas and Anna Hubbard, two of the most "made for each other" people I have ever met; even the minister of the ceremony made a comment about how they had the highest score he had ever seen on the premarital test. During my day with Chad & Anna, I couldn't help but notice that everyone I met - the bridal party, their friends, their parents & relatives, were all very friendly, warm and comfortable folk - a testament to the solid foundation Chad & Anna have, as well as a glimpse into the future of a great couple! Congratulations Chad & Anna!

Congratulations to Deric & April Wolf, who became husband & wife on August 26, 2006, at the Lakeside Wedding Chapel in Eau Galle, Wisconsin! They had a perfect day for their wedding, and I always enjoy the drive to scenic Eau Galle - although there was a bit of road construction on Highway 25 (ok, most of road is missing from Downsville to Durand), and Eau Galle looked a bit like a small-scale war zone - thanks to a horrific hail storm that smashed windows, cars, and tore off branches that were scattered everywhere - but the Lakeside Wedding Chapel seemed unfazed and picture perfect for the day! April (that would be the bride) got a nice suprise in the form of a stretch Hummer Limo that took them from the chapel, to the reception (with a few stops along the way) at Mick's in Durand. The Mick's Bar & Grill building in downtown Durand used to be an old Ford dealership (you can still read the faded letters on the back of the building if you look carefully), and it has a real blues & rock feel to it - old hardwood floors, tin ceiling, fieldstone walls, and a multilevel layout that overlooks the river. The reception was great! Deric & April, along with their wedding party (Hope, Valerie, Jessica, Lindsay, Brandon, Nik, Robby, Corey, Kevin and Jame) know how to have a good time! The dance floor was packed all night! Brent & Janelle got married yesterday, August 5, 2006 at St. John's Church in Bloomer! The collage of images you see here is just a small sample of their great wedding photographs (it gets larger if you click on it). This was one of the most enjoyable, relaxed, and organized weddings I have ever been to, and I have been to alot of weddings! On the way to the local park for a few outdoor shots, I passed the Bloomer fair, and once I saw the ferris wheel, I knew we had to make a side trip for some memorable images - although a few members of the wedding party started to look a bit quesy (the ferris wheel turned backwards!), I think overall they had fun! Then it was off to Ruby's for the dinner and reception - the food was great, and I can't say enough about the professional staff that really made everything run smooth and organized. And speaking more of great food, they even had cannoli brought all the way from Canfora Bakery in Milwaukee! We're talkin' Italian pastry here, what an amazing suprise, and they were wonderful! Here in the northwoods of Bloomer, you just can't find great canoli, although Bloomer is famous for it's pies! Every high school senior I photograph can't wait to get to the studio and have their portraits taken, every single senior is so excited and energized! Ok, you and I both know that that is not quite the truth, some seniors would rather have a root canal than have their portraits taken!

At first glance, I though Mitch might be more interested in that trip to the dentist then a photography session - but it wasn't long before this track star from Menomonie High School was "workin" the camera like a professional model! Mitch was great! And his portraits are great, too!

On a side note, it was a nice change of pace to have someone actually keep up with me while walking during the outdoor segment of a senior portrait session!

Nicole's Senior Portrait Session

Ok, it's been some time since I updated the newsletter, mostly due to the high demand for my services, and the fact that I need to sleep sometime!

Today we were busy in the studio creating great high school senior portraits of Nicole Nusberger! What a wonderful girl to photograph! Nicole took direction well, tried every pose I came up with, and braved the 95 degree heat and burning hot sand for some awesome outdoor portraits!

On Saturday, June 3, 2006 I was in scenic Eagle River, Wisconsin for the wedding of Jim Reineck & Lisa Boos! Their wedding was held at Eagle Waters Resort, nestled deep in the woods on the shores of Eagle Lake. Great location! This area also holds many fond memories for Jim & Lisa, making it even more special for the two of them. Their outdoor wedding had perfect weather, the food & wedding cake were outstanding, and they had a great band for their reception that kept everyone dancing and entertained! Saturday May 13th, the wedding of Barry Bauer and Mandy Blakeley! Barry & Mandy's wedding was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in the scenic rolling hills & valleys of Arkansaw - Arkansaw, Wisconsin, on county road Z in Dunn County. If you should ever decide to visit the hills of Arkansaw, be aware that county road Z doesn't show up on a map, and that there are TWO county road Z's amazingly near each other - both very scenic, hilly, a great picturesque ride through rural Wisconsin. I highly recommend Arkansaw Creek Park, I've been there before (so NO, I wasn't lost anywhere on Z, maybe). Barry & Mandy are a great couple, very relaxed and easy going, except for a brief moment of panic on Mandy's part with a slightly misplaced ring that was quickly found by Barry's Dad! MHS Prom

Saturday, May 6th was the Menomonie High School Prom and D'Angelo Photography Studio was there as the official MHS Prom photographer! The guys & gals looked stunning, flowing dresses & crisp tuxes were the order of the day - the music sounded great and a large crowd danced well past 11pm! Belongia - Traastad wedding

Saturday, March 25 I had the pleasure to be in scenic Coon Valley, Wisconsin for the wedding of Kevin Traasad & Maggie Belongia! They got married at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church, which holds alot of history for the Traastad family - it's where Kevin was baptised & confirmed, and Kevin's home farm is just 1.8 miles from the church! Mabel Tainter Wedding Faire

Sunday was the 4th annual Mabel Tainter Wedding Faire in downtown Menomonie! The Menomonie wedding faire is sponsored by the Mabel Tainter Theatre, Chippewa Valley Newspapers, and myself - D'Angelo Photography Studio. I had a booth there, along with a lot of other great wedding related vendors, and the Faire had a nice turnout, even with the heavy snow and slick roads! Hope you all had a chance to sample the great cake from Jennifer Elliott, the great food from Lammers & Black Tie Catering, and get a few Dove chocolates from other various vendors. Always have to check out who has chocolate at their booths! Thanks to all the guests & great vendors who attended this years wedding faire! Wow, what a nice day today - feels like spring is just gettin' ready to bust-out! Pass the Pig

I was on hand today as Menomonie's Mayor Dennis Kropp got the bacon, literally, still in it's grunting, squealing form! The Menomonie FFA Chapter presented the Mayor with a pig, supplied courtesy of Doug Prochnow, as part of their "Pass the Pig" fundraiser. Community members can "pass the pig" to anyone they like for a small (or large) donation to the Menomonie FFA, and the recipent can find out who sent it to them, also for a kindly tax-deductible gift to the FFA! On this pig pass, the presenters from the Menomonie FFA were Bailey Rice, Cassy Rogers and Danielle Keyes, accompanied by the Menomonie High School Agri-Science instructor Jean D'Angelo. This is a great idea, and a fun fundraiser - if you would like to "Pass the Pig" to someone special, call the MHS Agriculture department!

BSU Ball 2006

Saturday February 18th was the annual Black Student Union Ball at UW-Stout - if you weren't there, you missed the party! Great food (I personally went back twice for dessert), the awesome band "Black Elephant" from Milwaukee that featured an amazing drummer, and keepin' the music flowin' into the night, the DJ "DJMV"! Thanks to Andrea Race and the rest of the BSU crew for inviting me back!

Last night I had the honor of photographing Jim & Lisa's engagement portrait session, they braved the cold, wind and snow to make some great portraits! They have a wedding planned this summer in Eagle River, and I can't wait to go - blue sky, crystal clear water, the quiet of the northwoods - and some really great fudge from the local fudge shop! Over the years I have worked with many models, and Nicole Reinhold is one of my favorites. We only get to work together about once a year, due to the fact that she now lives many hours away from the studio, but when we do get together we always are able to create some great images! I tease her when she calls, telling her that I feel like her dentist, that it's time for her yearly check-up! Seriously, Nicole is a great model, she has a natural photographic rhythm and a great look. Thanks for coming for your yearly session, Nicole!

Just got back from an awesome photography seminar in Chicago, and now that I am back, here's an image from the latest senior portrait session with Liz Veith!
